    Bone Marrow Transplantation

Bone marrow is the spongy tissue inside some of your bones, such as your hip and thigh bones. It contains immature cells, called stem cells. The stem cells can develop into the red blood cells that carry oxygen through your body, the white blood cells that fight infections, and the platelets that help with blood clotting.
If there is a problem with your bone marrow,a transplant can give you healthy new marrow. You could need a transplant because of a disease, such as bone marrow diseases or cancers like leukemia kemia or lymphoma.Or you might need one if a strong cancer treatment kills your healthy blood cells.
People with cancer sometimes donate bone marrow before treatment to be transplanted later. But often the new marrow comes from a donor, either a close family member or someone unrelated.
The healthy cells for a transplant can come from three sources:bone marrow;peripheral (circulating) blood that has an increased number of healthy blood-forming cells(also called peripheral blood stem cells or PBSC);umbilical cord blood that is collected after a baby is born.
If you need an allogeneic transplant, your doctor will look for a marrow donor or cord blood unit that matches your HLA tissue type.HLA stands for human leukocyte antigen,a markei your immune system uses to recognize which cells belong in your body and which do not.
Before your body can receive the healthy cells, the diseased cells must be destroyed. This is done using chemotherapy and sometimes radiation. The destruction of diseased cells is called a preparative regimen or a conditioning regimen.
On the day of transplant, the cells from the marrow donor or cord blood unit are infused intravenously(go into your body through a large vein). These healthy cells move into the spaces inside your bones where they create new marrow. They grow and make healthy new red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.

Before receiving healthy cells, diseased cells must_________.
    A:undergo chemotherapy
    B:go through radiation
    C:be prepared
    D:be wrecked

Daisy Williams admits genes play some role in the way she looks, but believes diet is an important factor."It doesn't matter how good the genes are if you don't eat properly and take care of your-self,"she says."If you want to look good, get plenty of rest, exercise every day,eat mostly raw fruits and vegetables and quit worrying."
Nowhere do the signs of aging manifest themselves more clearly than in the condition of the skin. When your weight fluctuates(波动),the skin stretches with each up cycle , but it may not completely shrink back to its original size in the down cycle. As a result, the skin may sag(松弛下垂).
Zinc and vitamin A are important for normal, healthy skin.Zinc helps the skin repair itself, and vitamin A aids in keeping skin supple, preventing dryness and helping shed dead cells.Good sources of zinc are beef, eggs and seafood, while many dark-green leafy vegetables are rich in beta carotene(胡萝卜素), which the body converts to vitamin A.
Vitamin C helps improve the blood supply to the skin and aids in forming collagen(胶原). Good sources of vitamin C include citrus fruits and juices, cauliflower, snow peas, red and green peppers, broccoli, white and sweet potatoes, tomatoes, watermelon, and honeydew melon.
How food is prepared matters too.The longer vegetables cook, the greater the loss of vitamins. Don't soak vegetables when washing them, since water-soluble vitamins such as C will be lost.
Good general nutrition is essential to maintaining a healthy, youthful appearance. And the key to good general nutrition is balance.Proteins should make up roughly 10 percent of your daily calorie intake;no more than 30 percent should come from fats;and the remaining calories should come mostly from complex carbohydrates(碳水化合物).

Both genes and diets affects people's look.
    A:Right
    B:Wrong
    C:Not mentioned

    答案:A
Good sources of zinc are beef, eggs and seafood...(锌的主要来源是牛肉、鸡蛋和海鲜······)",而不是维生素A的,因此选B。
答案相关句在第三段最后:"...while many dark-green leafy vegetables are rich in beta carotene, which the body converts to vitamin A.”因此该句正确。
答案相关句在第五段第二句:" The longer vegetables cook , the greater the loss of vitamins.”因此选B。
根据常识,该句似乎是正确的,但文章中并没有提到“In order to look younger, one should cut back on fats.”因此选C。
    文章的主题是保持年轻皮肤的关键是营养平衡,而不是题中说的如何减肥。因此选择B。
